Kakampi ni GMA ang Langit

"Great men talk about ideas; Mediocre men talk about things; Small men talk about people," said Admiral Hyman Rickover.

Was Rey Langit in the same league of small men who would rather inquire into what people think of other people when he asked both Presidents---Obama and Arroyo---about their impressions of each other?

"More than a dozen Filipino journalists were here covering...but it was Langit, with his trademark modulated voice, who was handpicked by MalacaƱang to ask one of only two questions at the joint briefing," reported the Inquirer. "The only other question was asked by a member of the White House press corps."

Further, the report said that when it was Langit's turn to ask, "there was a cacophony of coughs and snickers as Langit asked his question." Who would not cough and snicker when Langit traveled all the way from the Philippines to the United States just to ask both presidents impressions of each other?

One US journalists expressed his/her disappointment over how Langit spoiled the moment. “You blew your chance, dude,” said the reporter.

Of all the questions he could ask both presidents, why the trivial which is better off asked in showbiz talk shows? He could have asked Obama's opinion on the slow action of the Arroyo administration to solve the human rights violations in the country. He could have asked Obama's opinion on the extrajudicial killings in the country which, according to CHR Chair Leila de Lima, have gone from bad to worse since she took office.

Later in the evening, "GMA holds briefing at 6/F of Willard Hotel which is aired live in Manila over government-run Radyo ng Bayan and radio dzRH. "Rey Langit," the report said, "hosts and continues to ask safe questions."

Ah, no wonder GMA is basking in the praises of Obama. Kakampi niya kasi ang Langit.
